A good family home is a challenging thing to find. As a family of four with the need to accommodate a guest or parent at some point, our three bedroom house is bursting at the seams. I long for that coveted fourth bedroom. If you could throw in a study, snug and indoor pool and the price isn't over two million pounds, you've got my attention. Windermere is an unassuming bungalow, just off the cycle track in St Brelade that just happens to feature all of the above and more. It's common these days for a bungalow to hold a price premium despite being in less than perfect condition, owing to the development potential of these large floorplan properties. Often the sale price is what you'd imagine would represent a finished home but, looking at the images, it looks like it's not been touched since the 80s. That's certainly not the case with Windermere. This is a beautiful bungalow, simply interior designed with thought and elegance. A muted approach to interior colour creates a flowing and relaxing space with thoughtful elements of detail. The ground floor has a grand, yet modern, entrance hall that flows into a large open-plan kitchen, dining area and snug that opens out onto the rear garden. Just off the dining area is a convenient boot room with hanging space that makes me realise how badly we need to rethink our understairs cupboard. The ground floor also includes a fifth. Yes, fifth, bedroom that can be used as a home office, another luxury I covet. The real pièce de résistance for Windermere is off the snug; a wing that houses a large indoor swimming pool with access to a utility, shower room and the single oversized garage. The pool opens out onto the rear garden through three sets of French doors. It's a space that's perfect for the family to run in and out of in the summer but doesn't suffer the unforgiving nature of an outside pool, so can be used year-round.. On the upper floor, the property provides three double bedrooms from the main staircase, two with dressing areas, and a house bathroom. The sloped roof adds character to the bedrooms and the house maximises the low space of the eaves to house dressing room space. A second, separate staircase takes you up from next to the pool to a fourth bedroom above the garage, allowing some privacy for a guest or another room that could be utilised as a larger office or in some other way. Externally, you will find a secure oasis of a garden, offering a private relaxing space. It's ideal for a family to spend time together. Just moments from the Elephant Park and Off The Rails, you have the amenities of St Brelade on your doorstep and easy access to the cycle track to town. In a quiet, highly sought-after location, the agents tell us that an internal viewing is highly recommended, and we'd agree. If you're looking for a family home, this is one to check out.
